Upgrade from V3 Proton to V4 Positron

Not sure where to put this question.

I have purchased my original Proton (with dongle) over a decade ago, and on last February (about 6 months ago) I paid for another copy (no dongle).
I have been happy with them and have not find the need to upgrade to V4 so far.

Lately, I have been looking at some chips and wonder if I should upgrade to V4 after all.

The question I have is for @top204
Since I have just bought the last V3 about 6 months ago, do I need to pay again for the V4 upgrade?

Hi,
This was in May (see important notes) https://protoncompiler.com/index.php/topic,355.0.html so I would say yes.

Yes, you should buy the new positron compiler directly from Les (top204)
I was in the same situation.
The last version you bought was from crownhill(very bad poeple)
Les is now independent and has no links with crownhill anymore
You will get a personalysed copy of positron that you can use on as many computers you want

Parmin,

In this case I look at it from a selfish point of view for me: The more people buy the compiler, then the compiler will be able to improve more and more and provide support. The price of the upgrade is a small one as well.

We could say: Support a job well done !!

Long live for you

The upgrades do not design and write themselves, unfortunately. They take a lot of time and a lot of research, and money for devices and electricity and heating etc, to get them in the compilers. For some people, 6 months is not a lot of time, but when working on extra devices and features of the compilers, it is 6 months of "dedicated work", day and night when my brain allows it.

It is entirely up to an individual if they do not wish to purchase an "upgrade". However, upgrades add items to the compilers and will need to be purchased for a small fee, so it gives me "something" back for the work I do on them. If I charged by the hour or the day that is involved in adding items to the compilers, I would be a rich man after a few updates. :-)

And so you should be!!

I am not a hobbyist user, the code generated by your compilers goes into many of the products I design for clients, so it earns me money.

Your compilers are therefore a vital tool in my work and I need and expect to pay for them to be kept up to date and corrections made. I appreciate that this work takes a lot of your resources and you must be justly rewarded for doing this work, which is creating professional software tools.  Frankly the upgrade fee you have charged so far is quite low and so in my view you must find a way to monetise regular feature updates and/or add-ons like many other vendors do so you can continue your good work.

Just my penny's worth.

Hello
We need to support Les and the Compiler, my favorite part is the Error capture upon compile if only other compilers were that good.

Actually I bought the last version DIRECTLY from LES rather than Crownhill (I bought the Crownhill copy a decade ago as well)

I bought the second copy to support Les when I found out that he was screwed by Crownhill.

I understand that writing a program does take time and resources, I am not trying to wheedle out a freebie, I am just asking because it does seem a bit much to have to pay again for something I bought with just a few weeks of difference.

I should have waited.
So be it.
