Hi Charlie,
I have 3 of the original Pickit 2 and they all dump the firmware from time to time, it seems quite a common thing.
Pickit plus adds a lot of devices that are not available for the Microchip software, It is also supposed to be faster.

Cheers Bob, I'm getting the Pickit Plus software from Evan. I've always been nervous of losing my Pickit programmer so this is a good insurance.

There is also the free PicKit minus software.

I've been using it for a while now for programming the 16F18232 and 16F18346 devices with the PicKit2.

There's no room for optimism in software or hardware engineering.

Does the Pickit Plus software also support the PIC24 and dsPIC33 devices? Especially, the newer dsPIC33CK and dsPIC33CH devices?

Looking at my pickit3 the PIC24 and DsPIC33 are listed though I never used this type so far.

I strongly discourage the use of pickit3 and dspic33ck devices, takes 20 plus seconds for a small sized program to program.
