OG,

I would suggest that in the Wiki are added sub categories so a user can post in the correct area for the following: -

A/D
Audio
BCD
EEPROM
Encoder
Encryption
GPS
GSM / GPS
I2C
Infra Red
Interrupts
Keypads
LED Display
LCD Text
LCD Graphic
Port Expander
Proton 24
PWM
Real Time Clock
Sensors
Serial Data
SPI
Temperature Sensing
Timers
Ultrasonic
USART
USB
Other Example Code

The above was taken from the backup page for PDS. If a user finds some time to download and add to these subcategories will be great. Also, there will be not many cluttered code around. For instance I can see that Bob posted a few about pressure sensors. These could have been gone to subcategory Sensors'.

Good list Charlie.
We could then start populating the categories as well as possible. I often used the WIKI. A terrific place to store stuff.

@joesaliba , welcome to your home
All of them can be easily added, easily removed, easily deleted.

Browse Amicus and AmicusDEV sites offline.

Download 10 files to your computer.
Run the Amicus_AmicusDEV.exe file and extract the compressed files into the folder.
You can start browsing with the index.html file in the folder.

The Amicus_AmicusDEV.exe file is for those who do not have the 7z program.
There is no danger.

Hi Gevv,

I'd be really interested if you could possibly re-post the Amicus 24 files as I have a couple of bare boards but no readable schematic, let alone a BOM so I can't assemble them.

John

Hi Bob,

yes I know, but the hosted files have evaporated, all I've got is a low resolution schematic.

:(

Hopefully this is what you need.

Hi Bob,

thanks. Sadly the schematic is only semi-readable, like the one you posted on this page: https://protoncompiler.com/index.php/topic,84.msg339.html#msg339

Hi John,
I had a similar issue, I think I have a parts list in a spreadsheet which I will see if I can find later. It might have been a best guess though.

Hi Bob,

I will be grateful for any help with this.

Hi John,
I am not sure how accurate this is but might be a start for you. I am still hesitant as my SMD soldering is crap.

Hi Bob,

many thanks, that is a great help as I couldn't read some of the part designations on the low resolution schematic, but now I know what the parts are.

I know what you mean about SMT soldering, the tricky one is the FT232 which has a very fine pitch.
Plenty of liquid flux makes the solder flow and it should then just stick to the pads and not bridge between them.

Do you want to make some of these boards yourself?

John

Hi John,
I have a few boards when Lester was doing a clear out and failed at my first attempt. The flux I have is in a syringe but is awful for getting in the right place, what do you use.
My other thought is only have the PI and support caps and have 4 pins on a shield for USB/TTL etc.

It is a pity it did not get produced as there is nothing out there for the 16 bit devices. The Microstick is the most badly thought out bit of crap there is. It is probably Microchip trying to force you to use the absolutely awful MPLAB.

I hope they are correct but I would double check the sizes especially for the small resistors / caps.

I don't know the history of the Amicus24, but as I have a few bare boards too, again from Lester's clear out, I assumed that they had been production at least for a period, but maybe not.

I've been through most of the BOM which is looking pretty good. I just have to select a mini USB connector to fit the existing pads. Other components look correct on the pcb.

If there might be a market for this sort of board then I would be interested in recreating the layout but with a few changes such as adding handbag links for the voltage selection and changing the USB interface part. Les had similar thoughts on detail changes.

A while back he designed another Positron 16bit board but then dropped it and I can't find anything on this design anywhere so don't know what it was.

Hi,
For the USB connector (and RS232 chip if I can desolder it) i found a cheap unit from eBay.
Something like ths https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203581591537?chn=ps&_ul=GB&mkevt=1&mkcid=28  if it is not the right one you still have a cheap converter.

saying that the part number in the spreadsheet looks like it would do https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/usb-a-s-ra-tsmt/usb-2-0-type-a-receptacle-smt/dp/2112370?ost=2112370 but then you have to cover the delivery costs.

Bob

John Lawton

Lol, I DO NOT fancy unsoldering that part - they are only £4.52 from Farnell

If I was to redo the board, I might use an FT230X which is a lot cheaper than the FT232 and I've used them for years. Alternatively the CH340E if I can find a supplier...

I'm pretty sure the USB socket is for a mini-USB type, such as this:
