Hello John,

I am trying to open the datasheet for one of my projects using PIC16F18325 device. It seems that Positron Studio has troubles opening it. I checked the download directory and the file is there but looks like the name (PIC16(L)F18325-18345-Full-Featured-Low-Pin-Count-Microcontrollers-with-XLP-Data-Sheet-40001795J.pdf) is too long.

I have no troubles opening the PIC18F26J50 for example, but the name (39931d.pdf) is much shorter.

P.s. I am using latest Positron Studio 2.0.2.4

Did you get the Data sheet through Positron Studio?

Yes, I did. Does it work on your PC with PIC16F18325?

Did you try to rename it by removing one section at a time to the next occurrence of "-", if you get down to PIC16(L)F18325-18345 and it is still not happy it may be the "(" or "-" characters it does not like.

Stephen, I am not sure I understand what do you mean. There's no problem opening the pdf file in Windows with the default PDF reader, the problem is when I try opening it in the IDE. In the IDE at the bottom of the screen you have the PIC name and next to it one blue circle with exclamation mark in it. Click on it and you have the datasheet's file name appear in a box, double-click on the name and the datasheet opens in Positron Studio. However for PIC16(L)F18325 - it doesn't. Can you please try it and confirm?

I can confirm the issue - I think I was trying to be helpful adding the name to the file. I never thought Microchip would come up with such verbose naming. I will sort this out for the next release.

The problem is not file length it is just the PDF Viewer is incorrectly identifying the PDF file as encrypted.  I have reported this to the developer of the viewer but I have not been offered a solution.
