A new .def or .ppi file does not mean the original compiler will give full support for a new device. The device itself may have internal changes that the compiler has to cater for, based upon the information in the .ppi file, and if that feature was not in earlier devices, it will not be in the code of the compiler.

The Positron8 compiler supports that device, and gives you extras. It also does not require the USB key, and never will.

The original Proton compilers have now been dropped, for known and published reasons, in favour of the Positron compilers, and internal files that the Proton compilers supported are not always supported with Positron, and vice-versa, because their structure has changed to match the newer devices coming out all the time and the changes within the devices that the compilers have to cater for.

Please remember... The USB key support will eventually be dropped from the compiler upgrades, but I will wait before it is dropped so users have time to upgrade.

hi les,

thanks for info

well this is where I am with all this

..what a mess

I have to support legacy code and legacy devices so need to retain proton
I can't find where to get a " proton upgrade " , I still have a USB keyed version
I have no time/inclination to learn a whole new compiler or even study 'differences'

I said ok I'll get Positron then and take a look

so I goggled how to

..the link to buy it

https://sites.google.com/view/rosetta-tech/home/how-to-purchase-the-positron-compilers

actually takes you to an 'ended'  page to get proton

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234076472690?hash=item36800b8572:g:y7IAAOSw25VeNYBm

all seems Amateur, clunky and confusing

needs a proper site to go to, input credit card, download it and 'go'

The Positron compilers are the Proton compilers, but have had a name change and extra features added, and continue to be added, But the original Proton language is the same, and 99.9% of the original programs will work with them.

I totally agree, but I simply do not have the funding to do any other form of sales. A couple of good friends here on the forum (TimB and Gabi) are writing a web site format for me, so I can place it in the inexpensive site domain I have purchased. Once I am familiar with the format, I can embellish it with projects and tutorials and PayPal links etc... But it takes time, and time is something I cannot share too often because I have a living to make, and I certainly do not get that from the compilers, unfortunately. :-(

I hadn't noticed that the Ebay listing had ended because I dislike it because they take such a large chunk of money for doing, "not a lot"!

The better purchase method for you, is to send me an email and I will give you the PayPal name, then I will receive a message from PayPal that it has received the funds and I will create an installer for you that has the software registration with your ID inside it. Then email you a link so it can be downloaded. The whole process takes about an hour and the compilers are ready to go on any machine you own and use!
