Hello,
I changed computers and the compiler won't install. A window pops up saying:
Error reading setup initialization file.
My compiler version: 4.0.3.0 -1.1.1.3
Thank you for your help.

Hi Gerard,
You cannot install from the upgrade, you need the original 4.0.0.0 file that Les would have sent with your name embedded in it. Then you can install the upgrade.

Bob

There was also a paid for upgrade round version 4.0.4.0-1.1.1.7 (at least than is the version when I purchase it), if the installer with your name in it predates that, I think you will need to install that as well before the latest update.

Re-Arranging what is installed, or when, will "never" give an installer error. It will just cause problems with the compiler, and probably give errors when compiling etc...

If the installer is giving an error, there is a problem with the windows OS, somewhere. The installer internals that I add do not look at previous updates/upgrades etc...

The correct sequence for the upgrades/updates on a new machine is:

Important... Install the original compiler first. This will require full uninstall of previous compilers and upgrades/updates from the computer, using control panel, or a third party program.

Then...
Install a Proton to Positron upgrade if that was the upgrade to positron path taken a few year back (no longer available).

Install the Positron Upgrade.

Install the latest correction update.

Hello,
I don't want an upgrade, I want to install the compiler on my new computer.
What I mentioned was my original file that I purchased.

Hi Gerard,

Sounds like you have a corrupt setup file.  First let us check that you are using the correct setup file.

What is the full and exact name of the install file and is it an EXE or MSI file

Depending on when you bought it then it may have your name as part of the filename.

GERARD

Hello,

The full name of the file:
Positron Compilers Setup for Gérard MULLER - 4.0.3.0-1.1.1.3.exe

Make sure you are running the installer as an "administrator".

Some windows installations do not run as admin, and the installer will not be able to place some files in some places, as a user.

Try right clicking on the exe, and going to "Compatability", and ticking "Run this Program as Administrator", and then "Apply" and "OK". Then try running the installer. If not, then the file has become corrupted over time, so try running the troubleshooter in the right click menu.

Hello,
I started correctly as an administrator, but I still get the same error message.

Clear the windows cache folders and try again. If you still get the same message it is likely the setup file has been corrupted. Happens often to me when moving files between SSDs, I keep everything important on old-style HDDs.

GERARD

Hello,
I think my file is corrupted.
This weekend, we are celebrating my birthday. Next week, I will treat myself to a new compiler.
Thank you again for your help.
