Hi Les,
I have 3 paid copies of Positron. I'm happy to pay for 3 updates to help the cause, but do I need to do 3 separate payments or can I send one payment to cover all 3?

John
Hello Les, thank you, for all your work, I have a payment in the name of Oscar Eduardo Rodríguez Gómez for the new POSITON update, my email is system-vr@hotmai.com, I await your comment, greetings
Hi Les,
Thanks for the upgrade. It's worth mentioning that the old Proton IDE does not correctly report the version number.
Positron Studio does and I suspect that IDEs developed by other members may too.
The Proton IDE reports 3.7.5.5 on my machine
John
You are a STAR Les! Thanks for all your hard work, we all appreciate it.
Charlie
Many thanks to all.
If there is a delay in receiving the email from an upgrade purchase, it is because I do not have an email address to send too!
I have several emails from Paypal concerning payments that do not contain an email address in the message. I have looked on my Paypal account and there are also, no email addresses within it that I can see.
I need email address' from the people and companies named in the post:
Emails needed for the Upgrades (https://protoncompiler.com/index.php/topic,2065.msg15819/topicseen.html#msg15819)
John... You may be using the previous IDE for the compiler. Make sure you are using the IDE that is in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ProtonIDE\". On the desktop it is named "Positron Compilers".
Windows has a dreadful habit of using links that are no longer valid, and even though a file has been removed or moved, the link on the desktop still points to it and, maybe, it uses a type of virtual file. For what reason Windows has started doing this since Windows 8 is still a mystery to me, but some idiot at micro$oft probably thought it was a "good idea". :-)
For example, I renamed the original ProtonIDE folder in Program Files (x86), yet the link on the desktop still pointed to the renamed file, and not the new ProtonIDE folder I placed there?
Les, I have the same thing as John. In my C:\Program Files (x86)\ProtonIDE\ there is an old link to ProtonIDE.exe. There is no new Positron link on the desktop, only an old one.
But it works OK and the new version is used so it's a cosmetic "feature".
Best regards
Charlie
Thanks Les, I will check tomorrow.
I had used the shortcut on the task bar.
All the best
John
@top204 Should I have received a response email from you?
I have not received a confirmation email from you, not even in the spam box. I did add my email address to the PayPal payment in the payment message.
Johan
Good morning Les,
I would like to purchase not the upgrade but the complete Positron package, since I still have the old USB dongle that I would like to get rid of. Can I send you the payment via PayPal or do I have to use Ebay? (which I don't want to do). If you can pay with PayPal, let me know the amount so I can do it as soon as possible. Thank you
I've sent you a forum message Giuseppe.
I did send an email Dompie, but some networks block emails with URL links in them. I have sent you a forum message with the Upgrade link in it.
Many thanks All. :-)
John... Charlie... With the latest windows versions, I have found it better to uninstall before installing, and that is with most programs now, because windows does not remove some items and gives false links and all sorts. It is such a mess since Windows 7.
If you are having problems with the desktop links. Delete them from the desktop, and right click on the "ProtonIDE.exe" file in the ProtonIDE folder, and then "Send To", then "Desktop (Create Shortcut)". The compiler uses only the files within the ProtonIDE folder for itself, and only looks outside for the user programs and user includes that are no longer allowed to be in "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" because of silly permissions etc...

Has the file "ProtonIDE.exe" itself changed any in the last few versions? Looking at the Properties in win7 mine shows "File version/product version 2.0.3.3"
Does uninstalling the program still delete all of the registry keys under HKCU\Software\MecaniqueUK ?
Last time I uninstalled PDS it nuked all my other programs from Mecanique, so I quit uninstalling it.
The uninstall and install does not touch the registry anymore, apart from what it uses itself to indicate that it is installed.
The installer has no reference to user registry keys in it, so it cannot remove what it does not know exists. :-)
The IDE's executable has not changed.
Email sent Gianfranco. Many thanks.

Hi Les
I have a problem with the compiler
I had to reinstall the OS. on the PC due to a HD problem, now I have put an SSD
the problem is the compiler, not the update
positron studio now only finds me the old version of proton 3.7.5.5 that I had on a backup
I searched on the old HD for the compiler to no avail, I think it was lost
It's likely that it's on the part that's no longer readable
I should reinstall the compiler, can you send it to me?
I thank you in advance.
Gianfranco
Send me an email Gianfranco, and I'll try and find your installer on my external drives and upload it.
This is why I stated in the email/message sent with the installer's link, to keep the installer executable safe for future use. :-)
Sent you a PM Les
Luigi ;)
I am late to the party. Just sent the paypal Les. Thanks again for your hard work!
Many thanks Dion
I have sent a PM with the download link for your upgrade, because I am having a few problems with my email transmits again.
Since micro$oft took over hotmail, I have had quite a few password problems with it, that I never used to have.

Help - Les, I have been tidying up my PC - running low on disk space after loading MPLAB XE!
I cleaned out a number of programs including Positron Compiler which reinstalled after downloading from the link you supplied when I upgraded (after a fight with Google Security).
What I have now is an incomplete install as far as I can see. There is no Proton IDE, and no assembler, I am also getting an error when I try and compile some of my programs with "unrecognised or incorrect operator syntax" this is on the top line
of the page which is a comment. Taking out all comment down to first line of code and the error moves down to the first line of code. I also think some of the Def files are missing because I am not picking them up with my highlighter.
Hello John,
Reinstall Positron by executing the installation as administrator, then run Positron IDE as administrator again.
Please let me know if it worked, the reason I ask is because after a recent Windows update all kind of similar troubles started on my PC.
@trastikata Just tried that, results were the same - Proton IDE was not installed, nothing in the BIN directories apart from x16-as.exe,x16c-bin2hex.exe and xc16-ld.exe. It seems that the last update is not a full install.
@JohnB you did not indicate whether or not you had re-installed your base installation first (i.e. Positron Compilers Setup for [insert name]).
If not would that not be the cause, as I am sure that for existing customers the upgrade installs on top of that base installation and thus would only contain the necessary files, rather than a complete set of files someone purchasing the latest upgrade version as a new customer would get as that would be base installation.
I have reverted to my original personalised install which got Proton IDE back, I then installed the latest update but I am now getting the compiler reporting errors which as far as I can see are not errors. e.g. Result is not recognised as a variable when in a procedure which returns a value, Pin variable type is not recognised.
Sounds like the IDE is calling the incorrect executable for the Positron compilers and calling the original proton compiler, that did not know about Pin variables or procedures etc... This, for some reason, happens in the later windows versions because it creates 'hidden' virtual links and files etc, and actually uses previous versions. I've had this also sometimes happen on other programs I've installed on windows 10.
So.... To cut out all of the Windows querks with virtual links and folders etc, I have created a full installer for you, that will install the latest compiler versions. i.e. 4.0.4.0 and 1.1.1.7, and I will send you a PM with the URL link, because my email is still on the blink.
Important.
However, before installing the latest compilers, uninstall as many of the compiler versions that are on your machine as you can (but do not worry of some of the earlier ones do not uninstall), and also any Proton or Positron icons on the desktop that get left over, and then delete the ProtonIDE folder from "C:\Program Files (x86)\ProtonIDE\". This will give you an absolutely blank slate. Then install the installer from the link. i.e. "Positron Compilers Setup for John Barrat - 4.0.4.0-1.1.1.7.exe".
Thank you Les, I am now back to where I was yesterday.
Are we all getting too old or are things which used to be straight forward a getting more and more complicated.
Things never used to be so difficult when I wrote programmes for my Z80.
You are welcome John. If you cannot help a friend, there is something desperately wrong. :-)
QuoteAre we all getting too old or are things which used to be straight forward a getting more and more complicated.
I used to think like that as well, but it is not the case. For some inexplicable reason, the emotionally detached, and lawyers, and sales people, and nerds are in charge, and, virtually, everything is being made more and more complex for no valid reasons. Just look at operating systems now... They are frankenstein monsters, full of crap that a nerd thinks is good, but the real world does not want or like. But the sales people like it because it gives them "buzz" words for the sheep, and the lawyers like it because it gives them "control". And they know the people have "no choice" but to use them. It is the same with most things now.
Technology was supposed to make things more "simple", but it has had the exact opposite effect when particular groups of people are in absolute charge of it, as they are now, and the human species has turned even more sheeplike, and under "absolute" control. What's more.... It is actually getting worse! "Big Brother" awaits, but George was just a few decades out with his timing of it. :-)
What initiated this was the question about the 8bit_device.info file.
Looking at the files in PDS\Includes and PDS\Bin8 - should I use both files? After a couple of random checks there didn't seem to be device duplication so I guess I should use both.
The new 8bit_device.info file in PDS\Includes\bin8 contains duplicates of existing 18F devices, new 18F's, and new 16F's.
Some of the existing devices (like the 18FxxQ84) have been updated in the new file, so I would look there first.
Remember John. The .info file is what the assembler uses, not the compiler. So there may be things in those files that I am testing, but not using in the compiler itself, or vice-versa.
For valid device info that the compiler uses, always use the device's .PPI file.
Quote from: top204 on Apr 11, 2024, 01:16 PMFor valid device info that the compiler uses, always use the device's .PPI file.
That would probably be a better choice anyway since then you can get the default settings that the compiler uses from the [DEFCONFIGSTART] section of the PPI file.
You wouldn't normally want to use some of the actual chip defaults (like JTAGEN or MVECEN)
The problem in the past has been Microchip renaming fuses and unless Les has caught up with them in his PPI files this leads to errors during compile. That is why I provide the option in the Fuse Configurator to use Compiler names or Assembler names for Fuse Settings.
I have a new version of Positron Studio which uses both 8bit_Device.info files giving priority to the file in Includes\bin8.
If anyone would like to give it a test, please PM me and I will send a link.
Hi Les,
Thank you for the upgrade of Positron. Just in time, when I needed to use the PIC16F15223 processor.

dear Les i had been asked before about buy of Positronon Ebay
i could not find sale link of Positron on ebay
did you stop work by ebay?
I have had to add the compilers back on Ebay, because no sales were happening elsewhere, and the ebay sales are few and far between, and I only get £32 from a sale once they have ripped off their bit. I just wish I had the know-how to advertise, or create a web site, but I have tried a few times and failed. WordPress baffles me sometimes, and I end up making so many mistakes!
A search for Proton Compiler on ebay will find the link:

especially for the ESP 8266-32 mcu family and if it happens for the pIC MCU arm family and also for the atmel mcu arm family, i would like to provide you with financial support if i were a very rich man. but for now i am trying to fulfill the promise i made to you by buying 1 piece every month (from ebay)
i hope we will be one of those very rich people one day and i will fulfill my promise on that day (if we don't die until that day comes)

You can have them uploaded to this domain and have forum "piggyback" off the main ecommerce website. Sales will be by digital download so no shipping and everything is automated.
You might consider moving to an annual contract type model, OR a tiered system where the "standard" i.e. existing compiler is cheap, but a version for commercial use is the same, but includes dedicated support and custom library / function writing and is an annual contract.
If you can get something onto "Hackaday" or "Dangerous Prototypes", you should make a few sales from that.
One idea to boost sales might be to contact some of the more active "makers" who churn out a lot of projects related to the PIC micro. Providing them with free copies, and putting them on a %age for each sale might encourage them to create projects using Positron as the firmware development, so anyone who wants to make one of their projects, will ONLY be able to download the .BAS file and will have to purchase a compiler in order to make the .HEX file to program the PIC. I can come up with marketing ideas all day.
Hello, I have made the payment, could you send me the download link.
Many thanks Josue.
I have sent you a PM with the download link for the upgrade that adds new devices. It is compiler versions 1.1.2.1 and 4.0.4.5.
After installation of the "upgrade" I sent you, go to the updates section of the forum, and download/install the very latest corrections update of the compiler on top of it, which will make the Positron8 compiler into version 4.0.4.7:
Positron Corrections Update 4.0.4.7-1.1.2.1 (https://protoncompiler.com/index.php/topic,2309.0.html)

Hi,
Is a PIC16F13115 supported in the new compiler version?
Quote from: RayEllam on Mar 06, 2025, 07:17 AMPIC16F13115
Not according to the offical list here (https://sites.google.com/view/rosetta-tech/home?fbclid=IwAR1WeBXG4odhO1hapKGkMVZSahwZvISauLBjMiERhQK6V41Kyg8B1aND9D0), and that list confirmed as I cannot find a PPI file for it either.
OK thanks, looks like spending bloody hours getting MPLABx to work :-(
You could ask Les nicely if he can generate the necessary files to support that device series.
John
Thanks John, done.
I am working on a future "upgrade" for new devices in the 8-bit and 16-bit PIC24 and dsPIC33 series. I am currently looking at the dsPIC33xxAK series and seeing if I can incorporate their extras into the compiler. For example, the on-board FPU (Floating Point Unit) that some of them have.
But it takes a bit of time.
Hi Les,
I want to upgrade to the latest version, my current version uses a USB dongle and is.......
IDE: 2.0.3.3
Loader: 1.0.2.9
Compiler: 3.7.5.5
What is the cost of the upgrade? is it still a paypal payment with the details previously mentioned on this thread?

In a few lines you have anticipated great news Les! The support of new 8-bit and 16-bit models as well as the opening to the Dspic33xxAK series are really good news, on paper they look like very powerful objects, the availability of an outstanding compiler like Positron will be able to offer the right tool to developers.
