I fear that dear wife Lynda is about to suffer a mental breakdown. We bought a new inkjet printer at the weekend and she has spent the last few days trying, without much success, to get it to scan and print double sided. (I have hidden all the sharp objects and hammers.) It's an HP Envy 6210. I have tried but am not much help.

I am not looking for help in setting this damn thing up, I am asking you guys, some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in the World, what inkjet printer do you have if it was easy to set up and use?

Best regards
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Do you want to scan and print with or without using a PC. I found this https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05632129.pdf  and on page 45/46 it has scan options but it does not seen to be possible to scan and print without using a PC.
I think you might mean copy and that is on page 40 which does not need the PC as far as I can see.

Bob

Hi Charlie,

I don't know how helpful this will be, but I thought I'd share my experience. I wouldn't buy an inkjet printer, even for home use. I've owned at least three different HP inkjet models, and none of them worked well for me.

I decided to switch to laser printers, and I'm so glad I did. I had a Samsung colour laser printer that wasn't particularly good, then bought a Brother monochrome laser multifunction printer, the MFC-L2700DW—the smallest model in Brother's multifunction range at the time. They no longer make it, but it's the best printer I've ever used.

All you have to do is replace the toner and load it with plain paper. I've already replaced the drum once, and it's still printing without any problems. It's fantastic.

Oh, and my preferred connection is Ethernet—no USB or anything like that.

If you can return the HP inkjet, I would do so and get a laser printer instead.

Gamboa
Long live for you

Thanks both.

Bob: Yes, she wants to scan documents and also copy. BTW I found that ChatGPT does very good OCR from a photo of a page. But you have to proof read it afterwards, if it can't read some area it makes up what it imagines might have been there! Very clever and usually well within the context.

Gamboa: Now that's worth thinking about. I could have the new inkjet, and she could get a laser printer for Christmas! Hmm.....

Thanks both, very helpful.

Hi Gamboa,
QuoteI wouldn't buy an inkjet printer, even for home use.
All very well if you only want a small one but I have an A3 printer and scanner, apart from the cost of a similar laser being around 3 times the price for a low end one I doubt I would be able to carry it to the place it is being used.
