What can be done to prevent Proteus from slowing down during simulation, with a CPU load of 50%, or should we just check it on the hardware itself?

Hi,
Nothing you can do except possibly get a faster PC (or more memory?). You could possibly try breaking the program into smaller steps but I am not sure if that would help.
I have had it run at a snails pace at over 85% load but I am not that bothered about that. I just like to make sure there are no obvious senior moments in my programming before trying it out on real hardware.

I see, that's what I thought. The memory is enough — 16 GB. The processor is a bit weak — i5 3450.

the processor is very old. You need at least the 12th generation of Intel

It will be the graphic LCD that is taking all of the simulator's processing power.

A few things to try are making the passive resistors digital mode if not actually in an analogue circuit. i.e If used as pull-ups and pull-downs and between digital components etc...

Also, simulate using the HEX file of the compilation, and not the ".bas" file or the ".cof" file. COF and BAS simulation is quite slow in Proteus, and if you are not wanting to see the source code working line by line, just simulate with the HEX file.

But the main addition to your machine will be RAM, because the simulator is very memory hungry, and Windows itself is RAM hungry, so it soon runs low, and slows down the machine.

Crickey... I still remember when I got a 128K RAM, Atari 130XE machine in the 1980s, and wondered how I would ever use 'so much' RAM in programs I wrote. :-)
