Google mail is getting ridiculous.

Today I learned something new the hard way - Google or rather Gmail no longer accepts messages with encrypted files (password protected archives) as attachment.

You want to send a password protected archive to a Gmail user - it will get rejected by the Gmail servers because they can not read the contents of the file and returned as No Delivery 

It looks like a blanket policy "No encrypted files" for your own security

I guess this means one cannot send text files of random numbers and letters to friends.

Well in my opinion, despite it's widespread use, Gmail is no longer fit for purpose. The content of emails or attachments should be none of their business. Time to host your own email maybe?

For security reasons, major mainstream email providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo Mail will not allow executable files to be attached to an email.

However, one option to send an executable file using Gmail is noted in the attached link.

Actually this is exactly the opposite.

I sent an exe file from Hotmail to Google account encrypted with rar password and name obfuscation. There was no issue with the outgoing filters of Hotmail but Google server rejected it and in the mail failure notice it was something of the sort "encrypted files not accepted".

So I sent the exe file not encrypted and the outgoing and inbound servers accepted it ... not the first time I send exe files and never had a problem till I tried to encrypt it.

It is clear case where the servers are set in such a way to force the AI to read and analyze mail content and if it fails, then mail is immediately flagged and rejected.
