I haven't seen John Drew on the forum for quite a while, and was just wondering if anyone has heard from him?

I know it is silly and over sentimental, but I worry about my friends.

Best regards
Les

John Drew

Hello Les,
I'm here. We've both had some health issues including my wife having a nasty fall. As a result I've been a bit distracted. She is slowly improving (no broken bones but muscle damage) and hobbling around with a walking stick. I appreciate even more all the work she does to keep our home and garden working, 64 years of marriage and teamwork. It's time for this member of the team to step up. Hobby is lower on the priority list at present.

I still love our Positron. Now looking at getting FRAM going. I did find some info on the forum - we have some great people generously sharing their experiments.
Best wishes to you both from Down Under.
John

Hi John, nice to hear from you.

I use FRAM chips FM24C16B for many years in my projects to my complete satisfaction.

Advantages include infinite lifespan (endurance, no 'Write/Erase' wear), higher write speed and low energy consumption.
Moreover, it can be easily exchanged with an 8-pin EEPROM (usually the same pin configuration).
A disadvantage is that they are somewhat more expensive compared to an EEPROM.
And it can be controlled in virtually the same way using Positrons I2CIN and I2COUT  ;D

I use it as RAM in machines for counters, hour meters (counts up every minute), and storing settings from the machine operator so that nothing is lost in the event of a power outage.

With an EEPROM, that is not so easy, because after writing to it about 100,000 times, it becomes unreliable.
