Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to switch the Proton (Positron) IDE to dark mode?

RGV250

Hi,
As far as I am aware the original IDE does not have a dark mode. If you are using Positron studio you should post here https://protoncompiler.com/index.php/board,92.0.html

Positron Studio -

Tools Options  Positron Studio Settings under General have a Scheme selection Light or Dark

HOWEVER !!!  BEWARE !!!

Dark mode should actually never be allowed in the IDE in case someone gets sleepy, divide by zero and cause a wormhole that could suck everyone into it.

I had always been curious what it would look like there. ;D

Me too.  Actually, it can hardly be worse than the hole we sit in here currently,
So I almost dare to say any change will be an improvement  ;D

Thanks for your answer, Bob, but I've been used to the PROTON IDE for well over 20 years. It works fine for me.      Thank you for letting me into your wonderful world Fanie, for a moment. I'll bring a flashlight next time.  ;D

Hi friend, you could use Visual Studio Code. With it you can change several modes; this is why I stopped using the original IDE. I hope it works for you. Regards.

Hi Oskar-svr,

I saw it mentioned on the forum a few years ago. I didn't have much time to look into it properly back then. I'll have a quick search on the forum to see if I can find it again. Thanks for the tip!

Best regards, Rudi

Hi All,

I've installed Visual Studio Code with the Positron extension, then connected my programmer, and it works perfectly. I still need to get to grips with the new editor, but it looks brilliant. I'd like to give Atomix a big thank you for all the work he's put into it.

Best regards, Rudi

Back in the day you used to be able to right click on the toolbar monitor icon and it would bring up a thing that would allow you to change the colours.
I can't remember when Microsoft removed that, I see to recall reading somewhere that it still existed in Windows 10 but had been well hidden as part of Microsoft' drive to make Windows more idiot proof, but it may have been removed altogether in Windows 11. Which could be why importing old Windows dark themes you created do not work anymore and creating new themes in Windows is not the same, but at least after years of nagging by many people Microsoft finally built in a Windows dark them.

I have never used it but think there is an app you can use called something like DarkMode or DarkModeApps that may do it, if that does not work then your only option may be to try and hack the .exe with a hex editor to change the colours.

@ ATOMIX,

In Visual Studio Code, I suddenly lost the icons on the right-hand side of the toolbar for compiling and programming, and when I checked the extension, I saw the following message: 'This extension has been disabled because the current workspace is not trusted'. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the studio and reinstalled the Positron extension, but the same message appeared again. Could you please tell me what I did wrong so I can resolve this and prevent it from happening again?

Best regards, Rudi

The problem has been sorted out; I'd probably enabled something that caused this, and I managed to fix it.

Best regards, Rudi
