Because we have such a diverse and knowledgeable group of people here, could anybody please identify the stuff in the photo? Our dog was caught eating these today on his walk. I fear they might be poison of some sort. The longest piece is 8mm long. Thanks.

Hi Charlie,

At first glance it made me think of these -

Cat Treats

Thanks CPR, that's a possibility. He's OK now several hours later so my panic has stopped.
A friend said they looked like dog treats.

These things are SQUAWK SUIT PELLETS ( AMAZON SELL THEM ).
I suspect somebody puts them out for the birds.
PS with this HOT weather put a bowl of water on your lawn for the birds.
I have had three green woodpeckers and magpies today!

Many thanks Colin, that's quite possible. Our little Westie is fine now.

I hadn't though about the poor birds, I will do it NOW.

Nicely identified! I may have to get some of those for here.

QuoteAI Overview
What Is In a Bird Food Pellet?
Pellets are often recommended as a primary food source for pet birds because they offer a complete and balanced nutritional profile, unlike seeds which can be deficient in key vitamins and minerals. Pellets are designed to provide all the necessary nutrients in a single bite, reducing the risk of selective feeding where birds might pick out their favorite, often less nutritious, seeds.
The wife has a bird feeder I 3D printed so only small birds can feed from it.  As AI states, they seek their favorite seeds and flick the others out where the larger birds like doves pick it up.  Makes one big mess on the lawn, but the poor birds have no other food source, says the wife.

The poison for dogs here is cotton poison (freely available) added to usually salmonella vienna's which they throw into a yard.  The dogs consume and soon die so the burglars can break in undisturbed.  The danger is of course that if children pick these baits up they get ill and even consume it they die.  The disaster here will not prevent this in favor of the criminals.  Everything here is sick and the sick is in charge.
We call these salmonella vienna's as some people got ill from them here some time ago.
