Thanks to @Fanie I have started cad modelling using the Siemen's Community Edition Solid Edge. I have made a number of models successfully but I have come unstuck with adding a conical hole.  Is there anyone who can help me with this, it seems it is not straight forward.

Hi John,
I use several 3D CAD/CAM programs, but unfortunately Solidedge isn't one of them. If it's a revolved part, the conical hole could be sketched as part of the revolve. If it's a square part, in Solidworks it could be a revolved cut. Alternatively, if solidedge has a chamfer function, you could create a parallel hole and then chamfer the hole with the parameters modified to create your cone dimensions.
Apologies in advance if this isn5 much help.

In Fusion 360, you can do the same.  Draw the cross-section in a sketch then wrap around

I don't think I have used Solid Edge but in many CAD programs you can start with a straight hole.
Then at the top or botton face (as applicable) of the hole you select it's edge and then Pull (or extract depending on the softwares terminology) to reduce (or increase as applicable) the diameter of hte hole at that end.
The tapering of the holes internal surface should be automatically adjusted by the software to taper from the wider diameter at one end to the smaller diamter at the other.

@Stephen Moss I tried your suggestion initially as this was the most naturally obvious way of doing it but in Solid Edge a hole has to have parallel sides.

Thanks to others for contributions, I tried the cross section approach created a cone but haven't figured out to subtract the shape from the body leaving a hole.  I have done this sort of thing in Rhino and I am sure it must be possible in Solid Edge, just got to find the way.

Happy Christmas to every one.

Hi John,
Sorry for the very late reply  :(   Next time send an e-mail, I didn't see the thread.
If you used Solid Edge, you won't want to use another drawing program again.
With your version, sorry I cannot help you there, I use V18 and it works different.
I have it on the wife's PC, and only spent 5 mins on it.
In my version, to create such a protrusion I use the revolved protrusion function, very quick and easy to do.
I'm sure there will be something on Youtube ?

Hello Juan, I can recommend using the FREECAD software, the advantage of using it is free, I use it, and it works very well for me, and it is very easy to use, there are many tutorials on YOUTUBE, I leave you the download link in case you want to use it and I can help with what you need, greetings
