I've just watched an excellent video on youtube about the old Mullard factories in Lancashire UK, from the early 1960s.

They made brilliant valves (tubes), and were in most TVs and radios in England, if not Europe.

The Mullard story

It shows the valves being made and is well worth a watch, but it is such a disgrace that UK governments, over the years, have helped to destroy "ALL" of the industries on this island with help from union leaders, especially one type of government. :-(

What a fascinating gem of a doco.
Two surprises - the amount of bare skin contact of the metal parts with no obvious washing process before sealing and the total lack of earmuffs in the plant.

Hello,

The mechanical technology used at the Mullard factory is very impressive! Even with some analog electronics, it is not simple to imagine the development to make these "robotic arms" work with this precision. Now take a look at this factory in 1998 and you will see how Mullard was ahead of its time.
